On-Campus vs. Online: What's the Difference?
Studying On Campus in Berlin
The on-campus MBA places you in Berlin - one of Europe's most exciting and internationally connected cities. You'll attend in-person sessions, participate in workshops and company visits, and build a face-to-face professional network with classmates from around the world.
For international students, studying on campus also comes with a significant advantage: an 18-month post-graduation work permit, allowing you to stay in Germany and search for employment after completing your degree.
Studying Online
The online MBA is designed around INSIDER - Steinbeis Next's dedicated digital learning platform. All modules, materials, and assessments are accessible on any device, at any time. Live interactive sessions are held with lecturers every 8 weeks to deepen your knowledge and keep you connected to your cohort.
This format is ideal for professionals who need to balance studies with full-time work or personal commitments, and for those who intend to move to Germany later rather than immediately.
Your Path After Graduation: Working in Germany
This is where a Steinbeis Next MBA becomes more than just a degree - it becomes your entry point into the German labour market. Germany is actively seeking skilled professionals, and graduates of German universities are in a uniquely strong position to take advantage of this.
Option 1: Post-Graduation Work Permit (On-Campus Graduates)
If you studied on campus at Steinbeis University in Berlin, you are entitled under German law to a residence permit for jobseekers (Section 20 AufenthG). This allows you to remain in Germany for up to 18 months to look for qualified employment - with no restrictions on part-time work during this period.
This is a significant advantage over the standard Job Seeker Visa. You don't need to apply from abroad, and you have more time and flexibility to find the right role.
Option 2: The Germany Job Seeker Visa (International Online Graduates)
If you completed your MBA online and are based outside Germany, you may be eligible for the Germany Job Seeker Visa, which allows you to enter Germany for up to 6 months to search for employment. Your Steinbeis degree - as a German state-recognised academic qualification - is a key eligibility requirement.
Requirements for the Job Seeker Visa:
Completed academic qualification from a German or Germany-equivalent institution
Proof of financial means (approximately €1,091 per month or €6,546 for 6 months)
Valid health insurance for the entire stay
Proof of accommodation in Germany
A detailed, up-to-date CV
Visa application fee (~€75)
Note: Since June 2024, Germany has introduced the Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte) as an additional job-search pathway for skilled workers. Based on a points system, it allows non-EU nationals to enter Germany for up to 1 year to explore employment opportunities, with the right to work part-time (up to 20 hours per week) while searching. This can be a complementary option for online graduates depending on their eligibility profile.
Option 3: Direct Work Visa (If You Have a Job Offer)
If you secure a job offer before arriving - or during your studies - you can apply directly for a German Work Visa for Qualified Professionals or the EU Blue Card (for roles paying €50,700+ per year). Your Steinbeis Next degree must be recognised as equivalent to a German academic qualification, which it is by definition as a degree awarded by a German state-recognised university.
BAMF and Degree Recognition
Germany's Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) provides guidance on immigration pathways for qualified professionals. For graduates of German universities, the degree recognition process is straightforward — your Steinbeis Next MBA is a German qualification and does not require a separate recognition procedure.
For online graduates applying from abroad, it is recommended to check the Anabin database maintained by the German ZAB (Zentralstelle für ausländisches Bildungswesen), which lists recognised foreign qualifications. Having a German degree removes this hurdle entirely.
